Beyond the Horizon: A Ride for Resilience

On 23rd September 2026, the team behind “Beyond the Horizon: A Ride for Resilience” arrived in Madurai as part of their national mental health campaign, travelling from Delhi to Kanyakumari and back.

Conceived by mental health survivor Seher Hashmi, this national motorcycle expedition spans over 7,000 kilometres and brings conversations about mental health, lived experiences, and social stigma to communities across India. Organised under the aegis of Pehchan, with support from Mariwala Health Initiative and Population Foundation of India, the campaign aims to foster empathy, encourage open conversations, and build compassionate support networks where no one has to suffer in silence.

In association with Sakthi–Vidiyal, the team visited Lady Doak College and The American College, Madurai, and interacted with the Social Work Departments at both institutions. These engagements created opportunities to discuss mental health, challenge stigma, and encourage greater understanding among young people and future social work professionals.

The travelling team included campaign lead Seher Hashmi, second rider Sunny Lochav, social activist Shameera Ashroff, logistics and accounts coordinator Amit Yadav, and journalist and filmmaker Preeti Prabha, along with support staff.

Through initiatives like this, meaningful conversations can help create a society where mental health is approached with understanding, dignity, and compassion.
